Turkey Trot goes emerald green in honor of 20 years
Participants of all ages are invited to gather at Marion High School on Saturday, November 10, 2012 to run or walk in the 20th Annual Return of the Turkey Trot, beginning at 9 a.m. As in previous years, the race will consist of an 8K run and a 4K run or walk. Trotters are welcome at the popular pancake breakfast at Marion High School after the race.
The Return of the Turkey Trot will go green this year in honor of 20 outstanding races; green in more ways than one! Look for race-day volunteers to sport emerald-colored shirts, the traditional hue of 20 year celebrations. The race committee is also happy to announce a more environmentally friendly approach to traditional race bags! All flyers, coupons, and other bonus items will be offered in electronic format when available or at packet pickup prior to the race. "The Turkey Trot is becoming more eco-friendly as we make strides to trim down on paper usage this year. After all, it’s our 20 year, emerald green, anniversary. There’s no better time to go green!” said Pat Quinn, Race Director.
Discounts for early registration are available at $18 until October 30. Early registration also guarantees a t-shirt. The price increases to $25 from October 31 through race day. Breakfast and chip timing are included in the registration fee. Those not participating can enjoy the breakfast for $5. "You can’t beat the breakfast and t-shirt along with the race entry all at one low family-friendly price," states Quinn.
The proceeds of this long standing community tradition benefit the programs of Horizons, A Family Service Alliance which in turn support families in Marion, Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas. "The Turkey Trot supports Horizons in providing much needed services such as financial counseling, emotional therapy, and Meals On Wheels.
