EVANSDALE - Sheriff's Capt. Rick Abben  announced Friday afternoon that they are considering the disappearance of Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, and Elizabeth Collins, 8, as an abduction.

He said the case changed after professional divers did not find the girls in the bottom of Meyers Lake in Evansdale, which has been the focus of their search for the past week.

Once investigators were confident the girls were not in the lake, Abben said they can now call the case an abduction. They also no longer believe the girls are simply lost because they would have been found.

Abben also said a $50,000 reward is being offered leading to the person or persons responsible for the disappearance of the girls.

He also said evidence has been seized in the investigation and sent to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation crime lab in Des Moines. He would not elaborate on what the evidence in.

He said there also is security camera evidence of the girls about 12:15 p.m. July 13, the last day the girls were seen. The camera shows them in the area where their grandmother said she last saw them, in an alley on Lafayette Road.

Their bicycles and Elizabeth's purse was found a few hours later along the trail of Meyers Lake. A massive search for the girls did not find them.
