IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa’s home football contest against Penn State on Oct. 20 will be televised in prime time from Kinnick Stadium, starting at 7 p.m. . The Big Ten Network (HD) will carry the game.
The home contest against the Nittany Lions will mark Iowa’s only prime time appearance during the regular season. Start times have not yet been set for any other Iowa football games. The upcoming season will mark the fourth straight year the Hawkeyes have hosted a prime time event. Iowa hosted Northwestern last season, Penn State in 2010 and Michigan in 2009.
The Iowa-Penn State game has also been designated the annual ANF Game Day at Kinnick Stadium presented by the Iowa Farm Bureau. The UI Athletics Department will partner with the IFB on a variety of activities that celebrate the many contributions of America’s farmers. Iowa is 6-3 in night games in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa has wins over Northwestern (2011), Penn State (2010), Michigan (2009), Syracuse (2007), Arizona State (2003) and Northern Illinois (1999), and losses to Ohio State (2006), Iowa State (2002) and Miami, Fla. (1992).
Iowa posted a 41-31 win over Northwestern last season in its only evening contest during the regular season. The Hawkeyes played a second night game at the 2011 Insight Bowl, dropping a 31-14 decision to 14th-ranked Oklahoma.
The Hawkeyes were 2-1 in night games in 2010. Iowa played four night games in 2009 and won all four. The 2009 night games were against Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State during the regular season, along with Georgia Tech in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl.
Fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes who were general public and/or UI faculty/staff season ticket holders a year ago are reminded that the priority deadline to order their 2012 season tickets is Friday, April 27. Fans should note that away game ticket orders must also be submitted by April 27, which is an earlier deadline than in past years.
Fans of the Hawkeyes who did not purchase general public and/or UI faculty/staff seasons tickets a year ago, but are interested in purchasing tickets for the 2012 season, should note that the UI Athletics Ticket Office is currently accepting requests for new season ticket holders and that the supply of season tickets available for purchase is limited. Requests must be made online at hawkeyesports.com and should be submitted by April 27.
The UI Athletics Ticket Office is currently accepting orders for 2012 UI student season tickets from current UI students. Students must place their order online and can do so at hawkeyesports.com. UI students have the option to purchase either a six or seven game package for the upcoming football season, as the home contest with Nebraska falls on a UI holiday weekend (Friday, Nov. 23). Students ordering their 2012 UI football season tickets will also have the opportunity to order their 2012-13 men’s basketball season ticket this spring.
Current UI students are encouraged to place their 2012 UI football and 2012-13 UI men’s basketball season ticket orders by Friday, May 11. UI students must also order tickets for the Sept. 1 football game vs. Northern Illinois, at Chicago’s Soldier Field, by Friday, April 27.
