My strongest memory of working on Sept. 11 was calling and waking staff photographers. I tried to quickly, but sensitively, explain what was happening, the best I could and as I understood it. I then dispatched them to local schools and churches.

Since I was separated from my 1-year old son and wife, who were in Maryland, wonder and worry hit deep on many levels as I then selected the images for our Extra edition.
