CEDAR RAPIDS - After placing fourth at the state wrestling meet last season, Cedar Rapids Kennedy had a few holes to fill.
It appears the Cougars have armed themselves with a corps of promising freshmen.

Devyn Marble hired another former Iowa guard, B.J. Armstrong, as his agent.
But when it comes to salesmanship, Marble doesn't need anyone working on his behalf. Which is just as well, because Armstrong declined my request for an interview about Marble. A representative of Armstrong's told me he prefers not to discuss his clients. That's not unusual from agents, at least not if the inquiries are coming from sportswriters.
Marble himself, however, spoke pretty highly of himself while at the NBA Combine a couple weeks ago. Here are some excerpts from the video that's linked near the top of this blog post, courtesy of DraftExpress.com.
“In my opinion, game in, game out, I think I was the best guard in the Big Ten and it wasn't close. I think people know that, but a lot of these other guys do have the publicity around them and they came ouf of high school highly recruited. I wasn't. So I had to work for mine.”
There are people who would suggest Michigan's Nik Stauskas and Michigan State's Gary Harris were as good, perhaps even better. Certainly, they will be selected ahead of Marble in this month's draft.
More from Marble:
“I'm still trying to climb the ranks. If you're in my way, I have to take you out. That's how it is.”
“I think I do need some more strength, get stronger, but that's a process and a lot of the teams said they're not too worried about that. They said once I'm with them they'll get me stronger.”
“A lot of the teams see me making an immediate impact and filling a void that's on their team. A lot of them are happy that I do love to play defense. It's something I look forward to doing. I take pride in shutting somebody down. At the same time, I can also go out there and score the ball.”
“I'm a high-character guy ... real low-maintenance. If I'm not in the gym working out, I'm probably at home watchingn TV, playing video games or something. That's the kind of guy I am. A lot of teams, that's also the thing they like about me. They know they don't have to worry about me off the court.”
Hey, there's nothing wrong with marketing yourself and accentuating things you see as positives. I think — draft position or not — the jury is out on who will be the best NBA player among Stauskas, Harris and Marble. But Stauksas was the Big Ten's Player of the Year for good reasons.
For what it's worth, Marble is rated as the No. 51 choice by DraftExpress in its most-recent mock draft.
Marble was scheduled to work out for the Milwaukee Bucks today in Milwaukee. He has had private workouts for other NBA teams, including Atlanta, Chicago and San Antonio.
Matt Moore of CBSsports.com projects Marble going 30th, to San Antonio with the last pick of the first round. All other mock drafts I've seen have Marble as a second-rounder.
