ACT acquires Pacific Metrics
The California company offers education technology solutions
Iowa City-based ACT acquired Pacific Metrics Corp., a full-service assessment and technology provider headquartered in Monterey, Calif.
Pacific Metrics is now owned by ACT but will remain a separate, stand-alone company. ACT will provide strategic guidance.
In a news release, ACT said that Pacific Metrics’ psychometric software, advanced analytics capabilities and online systems will give the company new capabilities to support its work. Psychometricians are highly trained professionals in the testing industry who ensure the quality and responsible use of tests, according to Pacific Metrics’ website.
“This move will enable ACT to better serve our customers and expand the reach of our solutions,” said Jon Whitmore, ACT CEO, in the release.
Pacific Metrics, a research and development company, was founded 14 years ago to improve educational assessments and learning through new technologies. It offers four major areas of products and services: online testing, automated scoring and reporting, psychometric research and analysis, and technologically advanced content development.
Pacific Metrics’ solutions are used here in the United States and internationally by state and government agencies. The solutions are licensed by premier testing organizations and innovative education solution providers.
“Pacific Metrics is one of the truly outstanding firms in the field of educational testing and psychometrics,” said Jon Erickson, ACT president of education and career solutions, in a news release. “It has an extraordinarily talented team that has brought powerful technological innovation into the service of enhancing learning and improving the measurement of educational progress. The organization and its people are a great fit for ACT.”
Pacific Metrics employs 80 people and has an additional office in Denver, Colo.
